Benefits

In addition to the benefits outlined under the Police Officer position, lateral personnel retain 3% at 50 CalPERS retirement benefit for "Classic" members and 2.7% at 57 for new members. Retiree medical benefits allow personnel to vest after a period of five (5) years and laterals will also have an abbreviated FTO program commensurate with their experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Lateral candidates must meet all of the requirements for entry-level Mountain View Police Officer, have 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college,  must possess a valid California Basic POST Certificate, and must have been employed as a law enforcement officer in good standing in the State of California within the last three years. You must complete all MVPD hiring components, including: a Personal History Statement (PHS), a Department Interview, a Background Investigation, a Polygraph Examination, a Medical Evaluation, Written Psychological Test, and a Psychological Interview and Evaluation.

Additional Offerings

Health Insurance: The City of Mountain View pays a maximum of $2,724 per month for officer coverage.

Retiree Medical: The City of Mountain View pays up to 92% of two-party or family rate (the POA contributes an additional $150 per month towards medical expenses).

​

Sleeping Facility: The facility is paid for by the City and is available for officer use. 

​

Life Insurance: The City pays premium for coverage of five (5) times the annual salary up to a max of $600,000.

​

Tuition Reimbursement: Up to a $20,000 lifetime maximum for accredited college course work (Bachelor's or Master degree) or leadership programming; $2,000 per year for training courses or completion of individual college courses.
